Seeing measurable results from your Pilates workouts
You notice Pilates influencing your every day life…
Of course we all want to see physical results straight away from any form of exercise we engage in, however one of the main benefits of a Pilates workout is what you can take away with you after your class and apply to the other 23 hours of your day. Perhaps you find yourself getting up from your desk more. Or you’re sitting in traffic and you catch yourself slouching down in your seat and sit up straighter.
You’ll feel more aware of your body and your movement patterns. You’ll start to notice what works and what doesn’t work for you. You’ll find yourself correcting your posture, your walking style, your sleeping position… the list goes on. Basically you’ll get really good at doing life.

You feel ‘safer’ in your body…
If you’ve ever had a chronic injury of any kind, you’ll know that sometimes, the smallest things may trigger pain or even a relapse. It’s usually the act of doing a basic movement such as turning your head to look for oncoming traffic or picking up a washing basket that can send you straight back into your Health professional for treatment. Understandably, this may make you very cautious when moving through your daily incidental activity.
As you continue with your Pilates workouts, you’ll find that both your stabilising muscles and your main movers are both growing stronger and working together more harmoniously. You may find you are having less of these ‘episodes’ and you’ll be ready to partake in those exciting activities like hanging your washing, pain free!
You bounce back from injuries faster…
Pilates also focuses on retraining the neural pathways that direct the muscle activation. It increases body awareness in space, or the movements a body is capable of. At its core, it emphasizes this neuronal circuitry as the individual must turn their attention all of the components of their own body. So essentially, it teaches you to move better.
A healthy body needs a proper balance between stability and mobility, between both strength and flexibility. Pilates addresses this balance by focusing on the intrinsic musculature of the body, as well as the joints, keeping them moving mechanically well, without restriction and with healthy alignment.
Pilates won’t protect you from every single injury, but it will promote a faster recovery and hopefully get you back to doing the things you love.
You find movements in class easier…
Remember your first Pilates workout and you found standing on one leg ridiculously hard? It won’t take long to notice the same movement becoming progressively easier. Sure, you might not be doing one legged flips in four weeks but you will definitely notice that exercises become less demanding as your body adjusts to this new type of movement.
That’s why it’s important to change up your program to keep progressing and challenge your body in different ways. Our instructors are always here to help you (and one of their favourite things is changing up exercises and watching your body grow stronger and more balanced!)
