About Clinical Pilates
How does Pilates help me
The principle of Pilates is to improve mobility and movement control (stability) by strengthening our deep stabilizing muscles throughout your body. This provides you with more awareness and knowledge of how you move assisting in overall improved musculoskeletal health. This can be achieved with floor exercises, machines like a reformer and weights. Pilates is a fantastic form of exercise for:
- Injury rehabilitation
- Providing valuable education on how you move
- Pre and post-surgery management
- Pre and post-natal management
- New to exercise
- Integrating with your sport and other training
- Improving general flexibility and strength
- Improve posture awareness and daily movements
Type of Pilates
Pilates has become very popular and offers many options from class size, equipment, slow and control to high intensity. As a result, the true principles of Pilates can get confusing. Some think they are doing something beneficial for their body by doing Pilates but may run the risk of injury or not see results due to joining the wrong type of class or studio for them.
It is important to note that there is no bad form of Pilates. But depending on your situation there is likely better options than jumping firstly into a large class environment.
